What is Ragnar?

Ragnar is a team relay race made up of either four or eight runners. Each team member takes a turn running a leg of the relay on dirt trails that wind through scenic canyons and peaceful woods on Zion Ponderosa’s 4,000-acre ranch resort property. Relays can take anywhere from 14 to 32 hours. Start times stagger from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, and typically end mid-day on Saturday. Competitors will run throughout the night under a brilliant canopy of stars to complete to the total 120-mile race length.

Regular Ragnar teams are made up eight members running 24 legs, with each person running a total of 15 miles. Ultra teams have only four runners, who run 12 longer legs, about 30 miles. Each of the three loops in this Ragnar Trail Relay provides epic views of Dixie National Forest, Cedar Breaks, and Zion National Park. There’s nothing else like it.

Why Zion Ponderosa Ragnar?

Ragnartrail.com calls Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort a “trail running Shangri-La.” We’re sure you’ll agree! Take everything that makes Ragnar special — the adrenaline, the challenge, the camaraderie — and add in scenic dirt trails, evening bonfires, camping under the stars with your teammates on the border of Zion National Park, and you’ll understand exactly why this is Zion Ponderosa’s largest event of the year. Ragnar teams come from all around the world. Our Ragnar Trail Relay has grown literally by thousands over the past several years, from 1,600 participants the first year to more than 3,500 last year.

Cheer on your teammates, catch some zzzzzz’s under the stars, make s’mores, build a campfire — it’s all part of the Zion Ponderosa Ragnar Village experience. This will be your home for the next 48 hours, so bring your tent, canopy, sleeping bags, camping chairs, grills, food, snacks, water…whatever you need to make yourself at home. There’s plenty of room to spread out across the vast meadows and open spaces of Zion Ponderosa’s 4,000-acre resort, but if tent city isn’t your thing, we also have six different lodging options, from cowboy cabins to luxury vacation homes, to suit every budget. Just be sure to book early, as last year our lodging filled up fast.
