Here at Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort, we have many things to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. With Zion National Park as our neighbor, and Bryce Canyon National Park a short drive away, the beautiful scenery that surrounds us is at the top of that list.

We’re grateful for the wildlife that call this area home. Bighorn sheep, deer, and wild turkeys are just a few of the species that live in these parts.
We’re also thankful for hardworking employees. This weekend marks the end of our full service offerings for the year, and we’re grateful for the employees who make Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort what it  is. Our vacation rentals are available throughout the winter season, but you’ll have to wait until next year to see our wonderful staff in action.

But most of all we’re grateful to our guests. Thank you for returning year after year and sharing your vacation with us. The guests at Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort are wonderful and we wouldn’t be here without you.

Happy Thanksgiving!

So Much To Do, So Little Time

Monday, October 28th, 2013

At my recent family reunion at Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort, I knew I would spend time at Zion’s National Park. What I didn’t expect was to spend so much time away from it.

I love the natural beauty of the National Parks, but my feet and my young children can only handle so much hiking.

That’s what was great about Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort; it had a huge variety of activities right on site. Horseback riding, rock climbing, paint ball, miniature golf, UTVs, ATVs, skeet shooting, riding the zipline and extreme trampoline jumping for the kids were all available.

The forty two members of our family reunion group were occupied from morning until night for a full day.

My husband’s favorite activity was riding the trails on Zion Ponderosa’s UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle) which has seating for six. We strapped our tots in the back and set off dodging scrub oak and pine boughs to find the most beautiful overlook areas.

It was so fun, we decided to take a guided tour from the recreation barn later the same day. Our guide led the way on his four wheeler to what felt like a secret access point to Zion National Park. There he told us the tragic story of how Jolley Gulch got its name from a settler man who jumped to his death after pushing his wife and kids over the edge. Although the story is quite sad, the views of Jolley Gulch were amazing.

At the end of the day, we relaxed in the pool, happy with the myriad of activities we had tried that day. We were so close to Zion and Bryce National Parks, but I was perfectly content staying where I was.

Where to Stay at Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort

Monday, October 21st, 2013

Hello fellow visitors to Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort! Allow me to introduce myself.  I’m Susan Strayer – an outdoors woman with two kids, a garage full of gear and a house in the mountains. I love Utah’s National Parks, so I was thrilled to discover Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort during a recent family reunion.

For us, a family reunion is no small feat – there are forty two of us total. We try to get together every year, but it’s getting harder and harder to find places that can accommodate such a crowd. But at Zion Ponderosa Resort, my parents, all my siblings (there are nine of us), our spouses and kids, all fit easily. We convened for one long weekend to visit, sight see and try to relax amid the mass of playing children.

The Moose Lodge, where we stayed, had eight separate bedrooms, a bunk area for the kids and an amazing industrial kitchen. It was easy access to the amenities of Zion Ponderosa Resort and surprisingly comfortable for forty two guests. It’s rare to find a place that can fit us all without feeling like we’re living on top of each other.

Apparently Moose Lodge isn’t the only vacation home rental either. The options at Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort include everything from a small two bedroom Overlook cabin to the 6,000 square foot Zion Ridge Family Lodge. There’s a huge range of sizes and amenities that would fit any crowd.  We were so impressed with Moose Lodge, my husband and I are coming back to Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort to try out some of their other housing options.

Cabin Suite

As an outdoors family, our normal accommodations are sleeping bags and our trusty dome tent. Tent and RV camping sites are options at Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort, but this time around I think I’d rather sleep on a bed – in one of the resort’s log cabins. The Cowboy Cabins are like having a private bedroom complete with a porch overlooking the beautiful surroundings. The larger Cabin Suites each have a private bedroom, bathroom, and sitting room with sleeping space for up to six. And right now there’s a 20 – 40% discount on lodging if you book a two night stay!

I’m excited to try out the more intimate space and spend some time in the beauty of that area with my husband. Zion Ponderosa Resort seems like the perfect place for a fun filled weekend getaway. Can’t wait!
