So Much To Do, So Little Time

At my recent family reunion at Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort, I knew I would spend time at Zion’s National Park. What I didn’t expect was to spend so much time away from it.

I love the natural beauty of the National Parks, but my feet and my young children can only handle so much hiking.

That’s what was great about Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort; it had a huge variety of activities right on site. Horseback riding, rock climbing, paint ball, miniature golf, UTVs, ATVs, skeet shooting, riding the zipline and extreme trampoline jumping for the kids were all available.

The forty two members of our family reunion group were occupied from morning until night for a full day.

My husband’s favorite activity was riding the trails on Zion Ponderosa’s UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle) which has seating for six. We strapped our tots in the back and set off dodging scrub oak and pine boughs to find the most beautiful overlook areas.

It was so fun, we decided to take a guided tour from the recreation barn later the same day. Our guide led the way on his four wheeler to what felt like a secret access point to Zion National Park. There he told us the tragic story of how Jolley Gulch got its name from a settler man who jumped to his death after pushing his wife and kids over the edge. Although the story is quite sad, the views of Jolley Gulch were amazing.

At the end of the day, we relaxed in the pool, happy with the myriad of activities we had tried that day. We were so close to Zion and Bryce National Parks, but I was perfectly content staying where I was.

Golfing is in full swing!

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Last weekend the weather cooperated with us as we were able to complete the golf course, which opened for guests on Saturday.  By the afternoon we had quite a few groups of children, families, and adults playing 18 holes.  Our course has it all – a creek, bridges, inclines, a waterfall, and lots of twists and turns.  You’ll also see both smiles and serious faces.

The girls are cousins and here on a kick-off to summer vacation.  Part of a larger group playing, they kept their own pace, enjoying the game, yet were still competitive with the rest of the group.  The young man crouched on the green was serious about his game.  Concentrating on the integrity of his score, he was double checking his numbers by adding with his fingers, all to make sure that he was the winner in his group of three.

Come and tee off with us this summer – membership not required!  It’s a great way to end a day after hiking in Zion National Park, an ATV ride, or canyoneering.

It’s Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial kickoff to summer vacation, and things are in full-swing at Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort.  Early arrivals for this sold-out weekend include a KIPP – AMP (Knowledge is Power – Always Mentally Prepared) school group from Brooklyn, New York and some families from California and Florida.

Although Ziplining and Paintball games were the favorite activities yesterday, everything was going on this afternoon, from the Bungee Trampoline to the ATV rides to the Zip Line.  Giovanna, a mighty 5 year old was the star of the Zip Line as she pushed her way through the line to ride the line without fear.  Her mother, camera in hand and smile on her face, watched and laughed as her daughter zoomed down the line, dismounted with help, and announced that she was ready to go again.

This weekend is full of excitement with the opening of the much awaited 18 hole miniature golf course, the resort’s on-site gourmet patio dining at the Blue Belly Restaurant, and the Night Owl Cafe, which will serve burgers and beer until 10 pm.

With over 500 guests staying at the Zion Ponderosa each night, the fact that the weather is forecasted to be sunny, clear, and in the 70′s, will make it for a memorable Memorial Day weekend!
