Saddle Up for the Ultimate Cowboy Adventure at Zion Ponderosa

When Ray Lewis stood atop Pine Knoll for the first time in August 1962, he saw an opportunity to create a place where visitors could experience the beauty and spirit of the Old West—riding horses, exploring the land, hiking, sightseeing and cowboy adventures just minutes from Zion National Park.
Generations later, his vision lives on.
If you’ve ever dreamed of living out your own Wild West cowboy adventure—horseback riding, learning cowboy skills from real wranglers, and ending the day around a crackling campfire with Dutch oven cooking—Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort is the place to do it. From scenic trail rides and authentic cowboy cookouts to Conestoga wagon stays and frontier-style camping experiences, we’ve got everything you need for an unforgettable cowboy getaway in East Zion.
White Mountain Horseback Ride
The Old West was built on horseback, and the White Mountain Horseback Ride with East Zion Adventures lets you experience that history firsthand. You’ll meet your horse, get a quick riding lesson, and then set out across the rugged East Zion high desert with sweeping views in every direction.
As you ride, wranglers share stories of East Zion’s cowboy past until you reach the mouth of a hidden slot canyon. Here, you’ll dismount and step between sandstone walls that seem to rise straight into the sky. It’s an unforgettable moment for couples, friends, families and kids alike. Horseback riding near Zion National Park is one of the most incredible ways to experience Southern Utah’s landscape. This ride is pure Western magic.
Trail Ride and Cowboy Cookout
Some cowboy stories end with riding into the sunset—others end with a hearty campfire feast. On the Zion Ponderosa Trail Ride and Cowboy Cookout, you’ll enjoy both.
The evening begins with a scenic ride overlooking East Zion’s landscape, followed by a sizzling grill and Dutch oven dinner by the fire. Guests in your group who opt not to ride can still join the group for dinner with an extra plate reservation—because no one should miss out on a true cowboy cookout.
Paria River Cowboy Camp
Saddle up for the ultimate cowboy adventure. Our Paria River Cowboy Camp, a two-day, one-night excursion that takes you deep into the sandstone country near Kanab.
This small-group ride (limited to six guests) follows the historic Paria River Trail, with wranglers guiding riders through canyons and desert landscapes. At night, gather around the fire for a Dutch oven dinner, and to swap stories and stargaze under one of the darkest skies in the country. With horses, history, and the camaraderie of the trail, the Paria River Ride overnight camping cowboy adventure feels like stepping back in time.
Duration: 2 days, 1 night on the trail (with lodging in Kanab before and after).
Available: Select September and October dates—perfect for fall colors and crisp evenings.
S.W.A.T. Experience
In the Old West, marksmanship was a way of life. We bring that tradition into today with a safe, hands-on introduction to firearms.
You’ll start with professional instruction in gun safety, then move to our private outdoor range where you’ll practice using red dot optics. Whether you’re brand new to shooting or already experienced, you’ll enjoy the S.W.A.T. challenge of hitting metal targets under the guidance of expert instructors.
Rest Easy After A Day of East Zion Adventures
When the day winds down, hit the sheets in cowboy comfort. Choose from Cowboy cabins, spacious Cabin Suites, or a one-of-a-kind Conestoga wagon stay. Each option offers a cozy retreat where couples can unwind, kids can crash after a big day, and families can gather together to plan tomorrow’s adventures.
