Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park 4-Day Itinerary

When you stay at Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort, you’re perfectly positioned to experience two of Utah’s most iconic national parks in one trip. Zion National Park is just minutes away, Bryce Canyon is a day trip, and there are tons of fun ways to explore the area with East Zion Adventures. Think of Zion Ponderosa as your base camp for adventure.
Itinerary Day 1
You’re all checked in. Now what? We have two fun options for you!
Option 1: Relaxing Arrival Day
- Check in and unpack
- Explore Zion Ponderosa
- Dinner at Ponderosa Eats
- Sunset from your cabin/porch/glamping tent
- Stargazing (self-guided or with a program)
If you prefer easing into your trip, take a little time to wander around Zion Ponderosa and get settled in. Take in a round of mini golf or a dip in the pool, grab dinner from Ponderosa Eats, and watch the sun set from your cabin suite, vacation home, or glamping tent.
When the stars come out, you’ll understand why our skies are some of the darkest in Utah—perfect for quiet stargazing on your own or joining a guided stargazing adventure.
Option 2: Hit the Ground Running
- Check in and drop your bags
- Sunset Jeep tour
- Return to Zion Pondorosa
- Dinner at Ponderosa Eats
- Stargazing (self-guided or with a program)
If you’re ready to jump right into adventure, check in and then head out on a sunset Jeep tour with East Zion Adventures. It’s an unforgettable way to start your trip as the sun glows orange and red, and you’ll get a first taste of the landscapes you’ll be exploring over the next few days. Grab some dinner after and get a good night’s sleep for the adventurous days ahead.
Itinerary Day 2: Zion National Park
- Drive to Zion National Park’s east entrance
- Explore Zion’s scenic overlooks and east-side trails
- Watch for bighorn sheep along the way
- Head back to Zion Ponderosa for a sunset horseback ride
Start your morning with a short, scenic drive to Zion National Park. The east entrance is less than 15 minutes from Zion Ponderosa, so you could be inside the park before your coffee cools. Spend your day exploring at your own pace: hiking, taking photos, stopping at scenic viewpoints that catch your eye. If you’re lucky, you may catch a glimpse of bighorn sheep.
You can spend the entire day in Zion National Park or dip out in late afternoon to squeeze in a horseback riding adventure back at Zion Ponderosa. A sunset horseback ride is a peaceful, western-style way to end a day of Zion National Park adventures.
Itinerary Day 3: Adventure Day
- Guided UTV tour or full-day canyoneering adventure
- Return to Zion Ponderosa for a relaxing afternoon:
- Pool and hot tub
- Mini golf
- Pickleball
- Kayak or paddleboard on the pond
- Unwind with a chill evening before tomorrow’s Bryce Canyon day trip
Today is all about adventure. If you’ve never been to a slot canyon before, it’s unlike any other place on earth. We say you have to see it to believe it.
You’ve got a few options today, depending on your adventure level.
Option 1: Hop in a guided UTV tour and drive through the desert to a slot canyon. This is a great option for exploring on foot without rappelling.
Option 2: If you’re feeling really adventurous, opt for a full-day canyoneering adventure like Stone Hollow. Featuring 10 rappels with the highest 100 feet, a canyoneering adventure is sure to get your adrenaline pumping.
After your adventure of choice, you’ll head back to Zion Ponderosa to relax. Enjoy the pool and hot tub, play a round of mini golf or challenge your group to pickleball. If the weather is nice, grab paddles from the rec barn and take a spin around the pond. Grab some dinner and hang out at your lodging. This is your time to chill before tomorrow’s day trip to Bryce Canyon.
Itinerary Day 4: Bryce Canyon
- Road trip to Bryce Canyon National Park
- Hiking and scenic views throughout the park
- Head back to Zion Ponderosa to unwind with family or friends
Road trip! Bryce Canyon National Park is just 75 miles away. You can drive your own vehicle or book a guided Bryce Canyon hiking adventure and we’ll take care of the rest.
Hike around the rim or down in the hoodoos, or drive the scenic drive around the park. Every stop along the way is breathtaking—in a completely different way than Zion National Park. At the end of the day, you can say you experienced two national parks in one trip. How cool is that?
End the day back at your cabin suite, vacation home, tiny home, or glamping tent and enjoy some time with family and friends.
Checkout Day (And One More Adventure!)
- Checkout
- Head to Orderville
- White Mountain Horseback Ride
- The Shop Coffee Co
It’s checkout day—but that doesn’t mean the adventure has to end. After checking out, head toward Orderville for one last adventure before you hit the road.
East Zion Adventures offers the White Mountain Horseback Ride almost year-round, and it’s a great way to close out your trip (especially if you opted not to do a horseback ride on Day 2). You’ll ride through open meadows, juniper forests, and wide-open views of East Zion—one more chance to soak up the scenery before heading home.
While you’re there, stop by The Shop Coffee Co at the Sinclair station (right where the tour departs). Grab a warm drink, a fresh pastry, and enjoy a relaxed, local sendoff. It’s the perfect way to wrap up your stay and ease back into travel mode.
