Considered to be one of the most popular hikes in Zion, The Narrows offers cool water, shade and one exciting experience! This hike is best done during the summer months when temperature rise well over 100 degrees so the chilly water is more refreshing than anything. This is definitely a hike that can be done during the middle of the day when temperatures reach their peak. We have dubbed this the best and most fun hike to do during the summer.

There are a few different ways to take the hike, from moderately easy to extremely strenuous. Making this hike perfect for anyone and everyone!

First way to hike The Narrows – Bottom up:

This is the easiest way for newbies to experience  a piece of The Narrows without having to hike for a full day or two full days. There is no permit required for this option. Hike as far into the canyon as you want and turn around when you are done. Simple and fun! Just take the shuttle to the Temple of Sinawava and follow the paved trail until it ends and start hiking up The Narrows canyon trail. This option will usually be round trip of 4-5 hours for most.

Second Way to hike The Narrows – Break it up into two days – overnight:

Starting at Chamberlain’s Ranch, you will hike the length of the canyon in two full days. This is mainly more strenuous than the first option due to the fact that you will be carrying overnight gear to be able to camp in the designated area. This can be a really fun choice as you get to experience the full stretch of the canyon without having to hike it all in one day. Giving you more of an opportunity to marvel at the beauty and take a little more time admiring the canyon. This is usually a 6-8 hour hike per day, but is also one of the more popular options for people who want the full Narrows experience. A permit is required for this option.

Third way to hike The Narrows – Full 16 miles in one day:

This option will start from Chamberlain’s ranch as well. This way will be a bit more strenuous as you will hike from the top down in one day. This option is best for more athletic people as this can take 10-12 hours to hike in one day. You would start early and hike from the top of the canyon down to the bottom in one day. This option requires a permit.
