Step back in time and enjoy an Old West cowboy evening at Zion Ponderosa with a mule-drawn wagon ride and Dutch oven dinner. The adventure includes a wagon ride followed by a taste of the old west with a hot and hearty Dutch oven dinner in the clearing, western games and a good ol’ time.

Zion Ponderosa wagon rides are a lot of fun and we do pick up a little bit of speed. The wagon leaves from the barn and lasts around 45 minutes. Set against the dramatic backdrop of East Zion, the wagons bump along a dusty trail through Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort’s private forested property.

After the ride, we head back to the edge of the resort to enjoy a fabulous Dutch oven dinner while wranglers regale tales of life on the ranch. A second round of guests head out for a ride after dinner. Dinner fixins’ typically include beef and chicken paired with hearty sides like potatoes or mac and cheese, beans, corn, cornbread or rolls and watermelon.

For an extra touch of authenticity, our large wagon was handcrafted by one of our wrangler’s fathers, Doug Clark. Doug also shoes all 42 of Zion Ponderosa’s horses and mules.

Covered wagons played an important role in western expansion. Round out your Utah Wild West experience with a stay in Zion Ponderosa’s Western Wagons or Conestoga Wagons. Conestoga Wagons sleep up to six guests and provide a glamping experience. Book a Western Wagon, which sleeps up to four guests, for a more rustic experience. Covered wagon stays are a fun and family-friendly option that takes Zion camping to the next level. Large groups and family reunions may prefer to stay under one roof a mountain vacation home.
