Throughout human history, people have been camping in one form or another essentially since the beginning of time. What started as a survival skill, camping has become a hobby for many people who want to become more connected to the great outdoors. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find a person who hasn’t ever gone camping and “roughed it” in a tent in the wilderness or elsewhere. However, the same isn’t necessarily true for glamping. A more recent trend, glamping has grown in popularity as people have searched for a more pleasant alternative experience to simple camping.

What is Glamping?

Glamping is a portmanteau word that combines the words glamorous and camping and is exactly what you would expect. It is a more glamorous version of camping. Glamping offers certain amenities that are not necessarily features of regular camping. Wi-Fi, bathrooms, a glamping tent, and cell service are common fixtures that glamping provides. So the main difference between camping and glamping is essentially the comfortability that you can live in while you’re out in nature.

Different Kinds of Glamping

Just like camping comes in many different forms (tent camping, backpacking, RV camping), glamping also offers a variety of options. Whether you’re staying in a glamping tent or deluxe glamping with a queen-size bed, the fundamental motivation remains. A desire for an outdoor experience without having to sacrifice comfort.

No matter your feelings on the matter, glamping is a growing trend and it seems to be here to stay. So next time you’re in the mood for an outdoor getaway, don’t sacrifice your comfort or a real connection with nature.
